DUBUQUE, IOWA – In honor of Veteran’s Day, Boyd Gaming’s Diamond Jo Casino made a $10,000 donation to the Veteran’s Freedom Center, a local non-profit organization that provides resources and supportive services to active duty military members, military reserves members and Tri-State military veterans.
Diamond Jo Casino’s donation will support the Veteran’s Freedom Center’s annual holiday initiative, as the organization shops for gifts to bring joy to veterans and their families, and ensure they have presents to open during the holidays. The donation will also support the organization’s “Give a Vet a Lift” program, which provides round trip transportation assistance for veterans in need of medical attention to Iowa City hospitals.
“These funds will go a long way,” said Jim Wagner, Co-Founder and Director of the Veteran’s Freedom Center. “Without Diamond Jo and other community supporters, we wouldn’t be able to provide the kind of support and care that we offer veterans on a daily basis.”
The Veteran’s Freedom Center’s mission is to offer a welcoming place where service members and veterans can interact and enjoy the camaraderie that they have shared while proudly serving their country. The organization also provides assistance for homeless veterans and families, financial aid for rent and mortgage payments, transportation assistance, home utility cost assistance, and provides food, clothing and blankets as needed. The Veteran’s Freedom Center also provides re-furbished wheelchairs and walkers to veterans in need.
Additionally, the Veteran’s Freedom Center provides an array of free activities accessible to local service members and veterans, including a woodworking shop, scroll sawing, an exercise room, and arts and craft opportunities. The center also offers leisure activities, such as pool, darts, cards, a television, music and computers.

The Diamond Jo Casino team was invited to select a charity of their choice for a $10,000 donation after leading all Boyd Gaming properties nationwide in this year’s Giving the Boyd Way workplace giving campaign. After achieving the highest percentage of team members pledging in this year’s campaign, Diamond Jo received a “Giving the Boyd Way” campaign award and a $10,000 prize to donate to the charity of their choice. The Diamond Jo team then selected Veteran’s Freedom Center.
