BILOXI, Miss.—Legendary comedienne and TV personality Vicki Lawrence will bring her beloved character “Mama” with her for “Vicki Lawrence and Mama: A Two-Woman Show” on Friday, January 21 at IP CASINO RESORT SPA’s Studio A.
Lawrence spent her high school years performing, excelling in dance and vocal performance. During her senior year of high school, Lawrence sent Carol Burnett a letter inviting Burnett to come see her performance in the local fire department’s “Miss Fireball Contest.” The letter included a newspaper article that mentioned their resemblance. Burnett, looking for an actress to portray her sister in a new variety series, attended the event. The rest is television history. "The Carol Burnett Show" premiered in the fall of 1967 and Lawrence starred in the show for 11 years, earning one Emmy Award, five Emmy nominations and three Golden Globe nominations.
After the show ended, Lawrence went on to guest-star in numerous hit television series, including “Laverne & Shirley,” “Major Dad,” ”Love Boat” and “Murder She Wrote.” Lawrence is best-known for her TV Series, “Mama’s Family,” which aired from 1983-1990. She has also appeared with Burnett, Harvey Korman, and Tim Conway in the “The Carol Burnett Show” retrospectives.
